  • Snakehead Run - Live! February 8, 2012 8:00 pm

Snakehead Run plays an infectious, driving variety of old-time acoustic music that often has audiences tapping their toes and dancing. Specializing in authentic blues jug and string band music that you might have heard on a street corner or juke joint in New Orleans, Memphis, or Louisville early in the last century. We try to introduce listeners to where some of today’s music comes from blending both the old and the new. We can be found entertaining crowds anywhere from the streets "busking", to farmer's markets and arts/crafts fairs, to the pub's and bars, to private parties and functions across the Washington Baltimore Region. We are: Guitarist and lead vocalist “Papa” Denny Buck. A 30-plus-year veteran of bars, coffeehouses and festivals in his native Ohio, New York City, and in DC since the mid-80s, He sings and plays on his steel Dobro with all the intensity and enthusiasm of his idols Bukka White, Blind Boy Fuller, Robert Wilkins, and Robert and Tommy Johnson. Lately the Papa has also been bringing some fine originals to the group. Multi-instrumentalist “Bro” Mark Casale settles here on mandolin in the style of blues virtuosos Yank Rachell and Charlie McCoy, and adds some funky fiddling and snare. He also contributes vocals and the composition of a couple fiddle tunes for the group. His talents have led the duo to explore the string and jug band side of the blues spectrum. Jim "Son" Bunch (Gutbucketeer), provides the foundation on washtub bass and jug and on occasion washboard. Jim has accumulated a lot of experience on the 'tub in his many years and plays it with virtuosity rarely seen. Raise your hand if you can tell he's not playing a standard bass. Put 'em back down, liars! He's originally from Texas and first learned to play washtub on the streets of Ann Arbor, MI. For booking contact Jim at 240-271-3534, or email any of us at: jabunch@umich.edu, skipbosco@mac.com, frdbuck@juno.com The origin myths of Snakehead Run, depending on which member of the band you ask, are conflicting, fascinating and riveting self aggrandizing, grandiose, self-serving and basically all just lies, lies, lies. Find out the truth our www.reverbnation.com/SnakeheadRun site.
